More Ben

6 Feb

Yesterday the big snowstorm descended on Columbus.  We were supposed to get 8 or 9 inches, but downtown only ended up getting about 4.  I decided that this meant it was safe enough for me to drive to the rec, so I did.  But, I forgot about that cleaning off the car business, which was a workout in itself.  I couldn’t get the very top of the car, so I left the neighborhood with 4 inches of snow on my roof, in addition to really wet gloves.  I hate that.  The streets were pretty clear and there were lots of parking spaces at the rec, so that was nice.  And, on the way home I saw a snowman Brutus!  The face was carved perfectly and it even had flexing arms.  I was going to turn around and take a picture, but I’m trying to make my car a “no phone zone” like Oprah told me to.  My apologies.  Also on the way home, that 4 inches of snow that was on my roof loosened up enough that when I stopped at a red light, it all slid onto my windshield.  Awesome.  No worries though, the windshield wipers did the trick.

I did schoolwork all afternoon until it was time to go out to dinner for Ben’s birthday part two.  We went to Gameworks at Easton.  Gameworks has this deal where if you eat a 1.25 lb burger, then you get a free $10 game card.  You have to eat the WHOLE burger and the side.  Everyone tried the challenge (but me), and though there was some grimacing and deep breathing (well, except for Matt), everyone finished and received their prize.  Here we all are, ridonculous burgers in hand.

That's a lot of meat!

After that, we played some games… while trying to keep down those big burgers.

Look at that face!

This is a familar scene... from Tokyo to Columbus.

And, now we’re back at Ben’s house watching some UFC.  Happy Birthday, Ben!

Another Milestone

Yesterday afternoon, Dan and I headed down to Cincinnati for his “surprise” 30th birthday party. I say “surprise” because he knew something was going on, just not what exactly. Joyce and I had been planning a secret party at an arcade full of classic arcade games like Streetfighter and Ms. Pacman! We rented a room in the back that had two TVs that you could also hook console games up to. Ben and Matt snuck down to help us set up games. Joyce made all the food and I bargained with the owners to stay open 30 minutes later so that we could get the UFC fight on one of the TVs in the back room. Oh, and my friend Molly even made this awesome cake shaped like an arcade stick!

Streetfighter cake!

Everyone showed up around 8 and Pete brought Dan at 8:30. Dan was surprised (or so he says) and we all had a good time running around playing games, eating pizza and cake, and watching the UFC fight.  Here’s a not unfamiliar scene from the evening.

And many more…

Today, I turned 28 and I’m feeling good about it.  At this point, I enjoy aging because I continue to hope that age makes me a bit wiser. I know this won’t last forever though.  :)

I just really wanted to lay on the beach and do some leisure reading, so we all headed down at around 10.  It was still cloudy and chilly, and today, it was also really windy.  I read for awhile, and watched the boys play bocce for awhile, but I was getting cold and sand was all over me, so I decided to go back to the house with my mom for some lunch.

After lunch, Ben, Matt and I went to see a lighhouse nearby.  We were going to go up to the top, but the line was really long and the lighthouse was closing soon.  It was neat though.

When we got home from the lighthouse, Mom and Guido were working on dinner.  They made a delicious greek salad and pasta with vegetables.  Then, we had a Dairy Queen ice cream cake (with cookie dough ice cream!) for dessert!  I got some nice gifts from the family, but my favorite was the flower pot Katie made for me.  It’s my favorite color and it matched my sweatshirt today!

Dan posted a bunch more pictures on the “piictures” tab, so enjoy!
