Challenge #3

-No Television for a Week-
This week’s challenge is to give up television for a week. I have been busy enough that I’m not able to watch a lot, but I do watch episodes of 30 Rock while I eat (and this can sometimes extend the process) and I also watch whatever I have tivoed before bed (like Biggest Loser and The Bachelor). As I’m sure you know, once you start watching, you can get sucked in for much longer than you intended, especially when you are dreading the next eight hours of reading. However, I find myself watching TV when I need to “relax” or “zone out” (which is probably not good) and I wonder what types of things I’ll do instead. The rules for this on have to be a little more strict, I think, because I could just give up television and watch a bunch of shows on the internet. Therefore, “television” for this week means, no moving picture: no regular TV, no movies, no youtube videos longer than 5 minutes (of babies dancing… I need something!), no hulu, etc. It’s going to be quiet around here and I think Dan might be glad that he’ll be in AZ all week.
Who’s with me?!

Its funny how I thought I was trying to join in here, but my challenges are pretty consistently the reverse of your challenges. You went without makeup, I wore it, you’re going without tv…this time I’ll be watching. I’m going to try to go with news shows or history programs because that’s what I think I need. In HS I my history teachers never really got through to me, I didn’t like it, I didn’t understand it and I didn’t know how to study it short of memorizing. Now that I have learned so much more, both about myself and about education overall, I think I’m ready to try it again. The Haiti earthquake really showed me that I knew little about the social or political experiences that have gone on there…I didn’t even know that Mississippi had been hard hit by Katrina too until I learned it through a poem on a youtube poetry slam…wow, I really NEED some t.v. in my life…
I’ll be interested to hear what sorts of good stuff you find to watch!
