Biking in a Winter Wonderland

17 Nov

I know it looks like I was trying to take a picture of that red tree (which is pretty), but I was really trying to take a picture of the snow. I swear it was snowing.

Do you remember in Forrest Gump, when he was in Vietnam and it was the rainy season and he said they had all kinds of rain… big ol’ fat rain, a little bit of stinging rain, rain that came in sideways and even rain that seemed to come up from underneath? Well, I had a little bit of that today, but with snow. I started my day with big ol’ fat snow. Those nice fluffly flakes that you can catch on your tongue and watch melt on the windshield. It was pretty, but as I started to pick up speed on my bike, one landed directly on my eyeball. It was so weird. It didn’t hurt or anything and it melted right away of course, but it was a strange feeling indeed. The other thing about big ol’ fat snow is that it’s also wet, so my hat and gloves were also a little wet by the time I got to work. It wasn’t too cold though, so I’m not complaining.

Work was pretty good, I got a lot done, and I had to leave a little early because I had a meeting with my advisor. So, I went home for a quick bite to eat, then headed up to campus. On the way home from work, it had gotten a little colder, so the snow turned from big ol’ fat snow to… um, kosher salt snow? Anyway, it was harder, but small and collected in the creases of my coat. But, then after lunch, on my way to campus, it was still cold, but the snow was more like BB gun snow. Bigger, harder, and as I picked up speed, hitting me pretty hard in the face. As soon as I got to Ramseyer Hall, I called Dan and asked him to pick me up after class because I couldn’t ride back in that, but by the time I was done with my meeting and class, it had stopped snowing and it was even all melted. Oh, and on a side note, my advisor paid me a compliment today at our meeting, which made me feel cheery even though I had just been pelted in the face by BB gun snow. Yay!

Then, Dan and I watched Kung Fu Panda and the Browns game. The end.
